Too Cool for Internet Explorer

The Quest

June 10th, 2008 by Kabalyero

I’m really having a lot of fun playing Cabal Online. For some reason, I’m drawn to the game. I know it’s not the community because, well, it’s your typical Pinoy online gaming community filled with all sorts of immaturity and elitism and I’m sure it’s not the publisher because I’m not a big fan of […]

Hands Free Second Life

April 13th, 2008 by Kabalyero

Did you know that Linden Labs is experimenting on a new way to control your Second Life avatar? They are using what is called a 3D Webcam to interact and control an avatar inside the virtual world of Second Life. Below is a YouTube video that demonstrates basic movement without the use of a mouse or a keyboard to control an avatar using this technology.

I find this technology interesting and weird at the same time. Interesting because it’s something new and if it becomes available, I’m sure a lot of people will have fun using it. Weird because you’ll be like standing infront of a camera doing all these various movements just to control an avatar. Honestly, I find using a mouse and a keyboard much simpler and easier to do.

Anyway, this project is still in development and this story, Linden Lab demos hands-free interface for Second Life, will tell you more about it.

If I remember correctly, I think the Japanese are also researching Hands Free movement and control in Second Life using brain signals.

Nissan has developed this strange looking concept car named as Pivo 2 which sports a  cool 360 degree turning cabin along with 90 degree turnable wheels so that you can easily  guide your car out of parking. Pivo 2 is an advanced electric 3 seater concept that employs “by-bire” technologies for braking and steering. The top cabin has swivel cabin system and comes with a robot assistant to help you in navigation. The cool youtube video after the jump will explain more :

It even has innovative round eyed robot that will guess when the driver is feeling sleepy and will shake its  head or  talk to  the driver for eg “You look tired. There’s a coffee shop 500 metres ahead on the left,”. The new Pivo 2 will be ready for exhibition at Tokyo motor show from Oct 27.

Rom visits Burning Life (Skylar) 2

Second Life

YouTube removed the second part of the video because of TOS violation. I just learned that YouTube now has a 10 minutes limit on user uploaded videos because before the limit was only 100MB. The video I uploaded was less than 100MB but a little bit longer than 10 minutes. So, I edited the video, removed and cut some stuff and then re-uploaded it to YouTube.

Anyway, here is the second part of my visit to Burning Life (Skylar).

Just to remind everyone that Burning Life ends on October 1, 2007 and in my case it has already ended since I’m ahead by a few hours but for those on the other side of the world that haven’t visited Burning Life, I guess today is your last chance to check it out! :)

Friday Video: In defense

If there's one thing you've gotta love about YouTube, it's video warzzzz. And, of course, one of the most popular subjects is one near and dear to our own hearts -- the never-ending debate about which console is best. Because, y'know, we can't just let people have their tastes or anything like that; someone's always got to speak out about how everything that isn't their chosen thing sucks. And then someone responds. It's the circle of video.

We may make fun, but at its heart, this video in defense of the Wii is worth a watch (though we must warn that it's NSFW and RebornZilla's mum may wash his little mouth out eventually). Once you get through the name-calling, there are some good points made, including many we agree with. Hey, we're fanboys, too ... and big fans of reason as well.

And, hey, no one's above a little occasional name-calling. It makes life fun!
