Today Nintendo of Europe (and Australia) added new classic games to the popular Wii Shop Channel. The games went live at midnight CET. Wii owners with a high-speed Internet connection can redeem Wii Points to download the games. Wii Points can be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel or at stores like Amazon UK (Card).
PAL regions this week are the first to get both Baseball Stars 2 on NEOGEO and The Dynastic Hero on TurboGrafx-CD. We’ve included videos of the games for nostalgia’s sake or so you can see if it’s for you.
This week’s new games are:
Baseball Stars 2 (priced 900 Wii Points = €9 / £9.75 / AU$13.50) is a 2-player baseball arcade game released by SNK in 1992.
You can select from one of 18 teams across two leagues - Exciting League (beginner) & Fighting League (expert).
The Dynastic Hero (priced 800 Wii Points = €8 / £6 / AU$12) is a platform-action RPG that’s identical to the Megadrive/Genesis game Wonderboy in Monsterworld…
Except that it features a new intro, different characters, and has an entirely different CD audio soundtrack.

In Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest for NES (priced 500 Wii Points = €5 / £3.75 / AU$7.50), vampire hunter Simon Belmont must track down and destroy Dracula’s remains in order to save himself from a deadly curse. Castlevania II expands on its predecessor with the addition of new adventure elements and also a day and night system that means tougher enemies when the sun goes down!
Combining the power of an enhanced Turbografx16 console and a CD-ROM drive, the TurboDuo (TurboGrafx-CD) hit the United States in 1992, packed-in with one of the defining side-scrolling shooters of the era: Gate of Thunder (priced 600 Wii Points = €6 / £4.50 / AU$9). Now, thanks to Virtual Console, Gate of Thunder is back, complete with its awesome CD-quality soundtrack that really gets you rocking along to the non-stop shoot ‘em up action!

This week marks the first appearance of a CD-ROM game (Gate of Thunder) for the TurboGrafx16 on Virtual Console. We’ve included videos of each game for nostalgia’s sake or so you can see if it’s for you. This week’s new games are:
Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos (NES, 1 player, rated E for Everyone - Mild Violence, 500 Wii Points = $5): In Ninja Gaiden II: The Dark Sword of Chaos, a new villain, Ashtar, is revealed. Take on the role of Ryu Hayabusa and rescue Irene Lew, a former CIA agent, from Ashtar. Destroy the Sword of Chaos, a weapon of great power forged from the bone of a demon. Use techniques such as the Fire Wheel or the Windmill Throwing Star and attack while holding on to walls and ladders. Use the most innovative technique of all - the ability to create Shadow Clones, orange shadow versions of Ryu that will constantly follow him, repeating previous actions (moving or attacking) in a delayed cycle. Once again defeat henchmen, creatures and bosses with new fighting techniques and even more weapons as you progress through multiple stages on your way to destroying Ashtar, Jaquio and the Realm of Chaos.
Hudson Soft’s Wii Virtual Console website lists Super Air Zonk and Gate of Thunder as the first two TurboGrafx-CD games to appear on the Wii Shop sometime in October. The upcoming TurboGrafx CD and TurboDuo releases were announced in September, none of the ten titles for 2007 were mention, but pricing was set at 800 Wii points ($8/€8) for each of the games.
Super Air Zonk: Rockabilly Paradise is a side-scrolling shooter spin-off of the popular Bonk’s Adventure series and the CD based sequel to Air Zonk.
Gate of Thunder is another shooter where you take control of the ship “Hunting Dog” as the pilot Hawk and fight the Obellon army.
The Hudson TurboGrafx release list for this month also includes the Namco Bandai action game Samurai Ghost for 600 Wii Points ($6/€6).
