The mysterious Tingle game that Nintendo’s been teasing was revealed last night — when it was released. Dekisugi Tingle Pack is a DSiWare download that is actually not a game, but a set of little tools and apps, all starring Link’s “pal.”
The included utilities are a fortune-telling program (hence the fortune teller on the website), a calculator, a little dancing Tingle image that dances in front of your photos, a timer, and a coin-flipping minigame.
But don’t get upset about the secret Tingle project being a 500-point nongame and not a real game, because the latest issue of Famitsu reveals another Tingle DS game, this time more in the style of Tingle’s Rosy Rupeeland. The new game, called Irobuki Tingle no Ai no Balloon Trip (Color-changing Tingle’s Balloon Trip of Love) features the green-suited adventurer searching for, yes, love. The teaser site offers a fake news report, a fake dating show, and some Flipnote Studio Tingle animations, all in celebration of this new game.
XSEED’s adorable (and highly successful) MMO Ragnarok Online has been wooing players since its Korean launch in 2001. It went on to expand its dominion with the release of Ragnarok Online DS last December in Japan, selling like solid-gold hotcakes. However, XSEED has no plans of ceasing the expansion of the game’s enormous empire — it recently announced in a press release that Ragnarok Online DS will be coming Stateside this winter.
The game will be an action-RPG in the style of its PC predecessor, placing you in the shoes of a young adventurer in search of treasure. The mechanics of the core game are all there — level progression, job and class selection, et cetera. Though the DS port will doff the massivelyness of its PC iteration, it will allow three other players to join you wirelessly or via Wi-Fi. We expect the game’s adorability factor to also be appropriately off the charts.
This is the perfect week for Platinum Games and Sega to show off the first ship-to-ship battle footage from Infinite Space, visible after the post break. The Star Trek reboot movie comes out this week, and this game might as well be the JRPG take on Trek. The bottom screen shows the view from the captain’s chair, and the top screen is basically a feed of your ship’s viewscreen, providing a look at the enemy ship facing you down.
A few other quick battle clips are available in the “Star Ship” section of the official site. The game comes out next month in Japan, so we expect to start having more footage show up on screen soon!
You remember Bob’s Game, don’t you? The humble 2D RPG made by a single, possibly loony, individual? Well nearly two months have gone by since the game’s creator Robert Pelloni was denied developer status by Nintendo and — other than a NYC littering spree — we’ve heard little about the game as of late. In an interview with Nintendo big boss Reggie Fils-Aime on MTV Multiplayer last week, however, the record was set considerably straighter.
When asked for his side of the story on what had come to pass, the Regginator had this to say: “He did submit to be a licensed developer. We have an evaluation process. We evaluated the opportunity. We decided at this point in time that he did not meet the requirements to be a licensed developer.” Well that about does it then, no? Apparently MTV wanted more from the conversation, pushing the CEO on what to do if a developer wants to work with Nintendo but doesn’t necessarily have two or three major games under its belt, “My hope is that any developer who has a compelling idea will reach out to our licensing organization and share their idea and go through the process of becoming a licensed developer for the Nintendo platform,” Fils-Aime said, “And we have a legacy of supporting that type of development.”
Unfortunately, as it seems, Mr. Pelloni’s game wasn’t quite “compelling” enough of an idea.
The company just announced that, like its other recent DS offerings, all copies of Knights will come in an oversized box with a bundled CD soundtrack disc. In addition, preorders from “participating retailers” will include an art book!
In its press release about the bundle, Atlus blamed Charlie the Chimpanzee, the ape in charge of the Spoils program, for recent excesses. “In hindsight, hiring a non-human for this position may have been a mistake,” said Atlus PR manager Aram Jabbari.
New screenshots are available in our gallery, and we’ve got a second gallery after the break featuring preview images from the art book.
The Marvelous/XSEED publishing superteam has announced a release date for Matrix Software’s action RPG Avalon Code. Should you RPG fans finish Blue Dragon Plus and Legacy of Ys this week, you’ll still have Avalon Code to look forward to on March 10.
Avalon Code tasks players with filling a magical “Book of Prophecy” with monsters, people, and everything else found throughout the world. Once profiled, the pages from this book can then be used to alter the game world and “influence a myriad of parameters from monster attributes to weapon strength.” The book is also useful for identifying stats and elemental weaknesses about monsters you encounter.
That copy of Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen you stashed under the mattress to partly fund your early retirement just got a whole lot less valuable. The ESRB has rated the rare Enix RPG for a Virtual Console release, along with another, more widely known SNES gem: Super Punch-Out!!. Is Nintendo planning to release the classic pugilist title alongside its modern Wii equivalent, as it did in the case of Super Metroid and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption? Perhaps!
Those aren’t the only surprises in the latest ESRB ratings: Lonpos, a launch title for the Japanese WiiWare service no less, has also been classified. As it’s been a while, here’s a reminder of what it looks like:
Seriously, how long have we been waiting for this? The ESRB rated the game for the Virtual Console back in May and we haven’t heard anything since. Why is that? Who wants to download the game via Virtual Console as bad as we do?
During a rather lengthy interview from their concluded Halloween wrap-up party, Eric Nofsinger from High Voltage took a chance to do what he does best: talk about the Wii and The Conduit. High Voltage is one of the most talked about developers in the Wii community, because The Conduit looks to be what everything else on the console isn’t: a game for hardcore gamers. But, enough about The Conduit. Would the company work on more Wii titles or, even better, have some currently in development that we don’t know about (aside from their upcoming WiiWare game, of course)?
When asked about creating an RPG, Nofsinger said that was “another area that can use a shot in the arm” and that we should all keep our eyes peeled “in the near future” as High Voltage will announce some other games the company already has “in development.” One of which, we’ve all seen by now. But, does he mean retail games? Does it mean it’s an RPG? Whatever it is, we want to see it!
“We feel that there are a number of genres that are poorly represented on the Wii for core gamers,” he said. “We want to do games that are high quality. You know, that’s what we are. I think it’s a shame for what is our personal favorite system to be so underrepresented when it comes to core gamers.” Amen, brother. Amen.
So, I started Second Life RPG which is a new site which will try to list and feature the many Roleplay and Combat sims in Second Life. Well, I may not be able to feature and list them all but I’ll definitely try.
Now, one of the feature of the site is the RPG Sims Directory. […]
