As both game character and flagship intellectual property, Mario has long been the focal point of Nintendo’s efforts. Thanks in no small part to creative genius
Shiggy Miyamoto, Mario’s adventures have ushered in some of the most pivotal games in the history of electronic entertainment. His moves have established and defined the entire platforming genre, and he almost single-handedly paved the way from 2D to 3D action-adventure games.
To put these landmark achievements into perspective, consider the Wii: This week marks the second birthday of Nintendo’s current money-printing console. To what extent has Mario enriched the platform in the two years it has been sold out available? The increasingly casual (and characteristically generic) orientation of popular first-party titles like Wii Sports and Wii Fit have stolen some of the Nintendo spotlight from under the ’stach of our able plumber, and the marketing appeal of the Wii Remote has powerfully overshadowed the age-old run and jump control mechanic. Does Mario still sell games? Good god, yes. But how much have his games determined the success of the Wii? In this week’s gallery, we examine the significance of Mario’s Wii appearances to date. Enjoy!

It’s-a Mario World is a weekly feature in which the ubiquity of Nintendo’s flagship character is celebrated: We’ll incessantly ruminate about mustache wax, debate the curious whereabouts of the princess and covet the luminous power stars strewn about the galaxy. Check back here every Friday to find out what strange and wonderful thing has got us tipping our caps.
It’s-a Mario World: Two Years on Wii originally appeared on Nintendo Wii Fanboy on Sat, 22 Nov 2008 11:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

As suspected, today sees the release of SBCG4AP’s second episode, Strong Badia the Free. What’s surprising, however, is the two other games available for download through your Wii. One of them is a WiiWare game we know little about, and the other is an old NES game about a robotic boy that likes the color blue. OMG what is it?!
Head past the break and find out!

Filed under: What are you playing?
With the time of year being what it is and all, we imagine inside the empty and very penniless chasms of our wallet is a faint and very tortured voice crying out for help. It wants us to stop spending, but we
can't. Oh, we just love the Q4
season and our awe of the Wii grows and grows.
So, some big
releases this week, wouldn't you say? Personally, we're making eyes at
Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, but we're not absolutely sure we'll be picking it up. What about you? What will you be playing?

Several of the folks frequenting the message boards over at GameFAQS are reporting that several Best Buy locations have broken the street date for
Super Mario Galaxy. These lucky folk who were able to walk into their local Best Buy and walk out with a wrapped copy of
Super Mario Galaxy not only win what is sure to be the best Wii game of the year (Sorry,
Metroid Prime 3. We still BFF?), but also our
unadulterated hate. Why? Because our local Best Buy is
closed at the time of this report.
Now, before you get all up in arms that this is only the crazed ramblings of a GameFAQS forum poster, know that several in the lengthy thread have come out of the woodwork to confirm this. Know, also, that some have claimed to be managers at other retail locations and Best Buy itself, stating that it isn't normal to receive product a week before release.
So, take it as you will, but you can bet when morning hits, we'll be heading over to our local Best Buy to try our luck.
[Thanks, Ben C!]

Today is a big week for releases on the Wii, as we not only get one first-party Nintendo game, but also two very high-profile third-party titles. It can only mean one thing: we're getting closer and closer to the holidays. Oh, will someone think of our poor wallet, please?
- Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
- Bee Movie
- Hannah Montana: Spotlight World Tour
- LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga
- Mario and Sonic: Olympic Games
- My Word Coach
- Agatha Christie: And Then There Were None
- Code Lyoko: Quest for Infinity
So, going to pick up any of these games? Would like to pick something up, but lacking the funds?

We've got several new games hitting the Wii this week, including two titles we've been anxious to get our hands on. In fact, this week has something for everyone, with some titles that will appeal to the whole family, a title for the older crowd and a sequel to a
GameCube game that wasn't given the love it deserved.
Without further ado, let's check out the releases:
- Battalion Wars 2
- Manhunt 2
- Barbie Island Princess
- Bee Movie
- Ben 10
- Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey
- High School Musical: Sing it!
- The Simpsons Game

With Kaplan gearing up to
ride her horse out into the sunset, she still managed to find time to sit down and chat with Stepehen Totilo from MTV. The discussion centered around
the delay for
Smash Bros. Brawl, but Kaplan explained that Nintendo is starting to look at the release calendar differently. Instead of cramming all of the games into the last quarter of the year, Nintendo is looking at spreading their release throughout the year.
"Sunday is actually a really good launch day of the week for products. And I think we're actually starting to look at the annual calendar differently. The first two quarters of the year tend to be more quiet. But now we've seen some evidence of sales in that period," she comments. "Other than the holiday quarter, I think the traditional way of viewing it is not necessarily a slam dunk. I think a really good product can be a slam dunk any time of the year."
Personally, we'd like to see a more balanced release schedule throughout the year, so we like this new way of thinking. The holiday season is expensive enough for us, having to purchase presents, so we often have to overlook some titles due to constraints on our cash supply.

If you're in the market for a new game, you've got plenty to choose from this week. As the month nears its conclusion, there's probably only one game on your mind:
Super Mario Galaxy, but that doesn't mean you should ignore all of the releases that lead up to the momentous event. Don't tell us we're the only ones who're going to snag
Zack & Wiki and
Namco Museum Remix?
This week's releases are:
- Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution
- Dancing with the Stars
- Playground
- The Sims 2: Castaway
- Nicktoons: Attack of Toybots
- Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros Treasure
- Namco Museum Remix
Of course, this is a very expensive time of year for most gamers, so we'd understand.
