Get ready for a galactic adventure filled with explosive mayhem as the Ratchet & Clank series makes its PlayStation 3 debut. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction marks the beginning of a brand-new series of next-generation games for our gadget-building hero, Ratchet, and his brainy robotic sidekick, Clank.
After saving countless planets from dreadful doom and earning intergalactic mega-celebrity status in the process, Ratchet and Clank have taken some well-deserved R&R. Yet, Ratchet remains restless. An orphan of the universe, he has never known anything of his past, his family, or his Lombax origins. And no one, not even Clank, can fill that void. Unfortunately for Ratchet, someone else is equally interested in Ratchet’s origins: Emperor Percival Tachyon. In his thirst for revenge, the vile tyrant of an ancient race of foul insect-like monsters called Cragmites has festered an age-old grudge and is bent on wiping the last-known Lombax off the universe! (more…)
In the below video interview with two developers from Insomniac Games talk about creating Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. In the interview they are asked about things they had to cut from the game, which gives some interesting hints at Ratchet & Clank Future 2 about 2:30 minutes in.
To quote the answer: “There were certain things in the story, characters that I wanted to address more in this part of the story arch that we’re not going to address until a later part of the story arch. So I can’t go into too much of who they were. … For instance the Max Apogee [the Lombax Anthropologist] story arch is something that we were not going into too deep, but we hint at it. And more of the background with the Lombaxes and what happened to them. It’s things we hint at. The Zonie and the history of the Zonian and who they are. There’s a lot of background to the world. If you interact with a lot of the NPC characters, you’ll find out a lot of hints about it.”
Watch what the Ratchet & Clank Future team have to say about their PS3-exclusive platformer game.
PS3-exclusive Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction marks the beginning of a brand-new series of next-generation games for our gadget-building hero, Ratchet, and his brainy robotic sidekick, Clank. But how is the game’s sense of adventure created? Developer Insomniac Games talks all about bringing this colorful galaxy to life.
The variety of gameplay modes is a key component to keeping it fun in the new Ratchet & Clank.
Ratchet is a game that many people love because of the opportunities that the development team has had with animating the characters to do zany performances and do crazy stuff.
Time for another Top 10 list from Screwattack. Except this time technically it’s just a top 6 of exclusives titles. Although this top list might grow with games like Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and Haze.
It’s almost one year after the (November 17th, 2006) release of the PlayStation 3, so let’s have a look at what defines a console — it’s exclusive titles.
The full PS3 top 6 list is as follows:
6. Ridge Racer 7
5. MotorStorm
4. Heavenly Sword
3. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction
2. Resistance: Fall of Man
1. Warhawk
The following list shows all upcoming and current PS3 games that have 1080i-1080p HDTV support. Since some games say they do but don’t and vice versa, it’s led to confusion, add to this that the PS3 will not upconvert a 720p signal to 1080i for TVs that only support 1080i and you’ve got enough reason to keep an eye out.

About two weeks ago Sony announced the PlayStation 3 game Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction was finished and would go on sale on October 30th in America. But fans of the series are in luck, because Sony’s Line Producer, Greg Philips, says:
“Due to some unexpected quickness at the factory, a vast majority of retailers have already received the game. With that, some retailers are choosing to release the game next week instead of waiting until the 30th, which we are all too happy to allow Official launch date remains October 30, but for those who can’t wait to use your trigger fingers on the Tornado Launcher (or any other weapon in Ratchet’s arsenal), check with your local game retailer next week.” In Europe the game is still set for a November 9th release.
In this trailer Ratchet & Clank get a mission from Captain Qwark.
Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction was pushed back by Insomniac for 1 week to release on the 30th October in the US. This was so they could thoroughly check the game and make it as perfect as they could before it went to print. We know that the game has gone gold [...]
A surprise announcement by Sony at the Tokyo Game Show 2007 last month was Secret Agent Clank for PSP due in 2008. In development at High Impact Games and using the same engine as the first hit PSP adventure Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters, this game focuses — for the first time in the series — on the adventures of the beloved robot sidekick Clank and his secret alter-ego, Secret Agent Clank.
Set after Size Matters, but before the events of Tools of Destruction, the premise behind Secret Agent Clank surrounds Ratchet as he’s framed for a crime that he didn’t commit. Unfortunately for the hero, the trial is skewed against him, and all indications point to him being found guilty. To save his friend, Clank dons the tuxedo and equipment of his favorite alter ego, Secret Agent Clank, and investigates who’s behind the accusations.
Along the way, he learns and acquires new abilities, such as Clank-Fu, which he’ll use against his opponents like ninjas and guardian robots. He’ll also gain access to new weapons, such as bow tie boomerangs, cuff link bombs and jet boots. There’s also rhythm gameplay where Clank dodges and weaves through a laser field. But it’s not all about Clank, there’s even events like a boss fight with Jack where the player gets to play as Qwark!
Watch the first gameplay video now that Clank is headed to the PSP, and he’s bringing a couple of friends with him…
Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction for PlayStation 3 has been finished, but the release date was delayed by one week until October 30th. The unconfirmed European date is still November 5th. Insomniac says they have been hard at work squeezing every last detail, dance move and tool of destruction that they could fit onto a Blu-Ray disc (while leaving some room to fit Captain Qwark’s massive ego). This makes it the largest Ratchet & Clank experience ever.
The developer is also finishing up work on an updated and optimized version of the E3 demo (which is also available at Gamestop if you pre-order Ratchet and Clank Future). The demo should be available via the PlayStation Network in North America by October 11. The demo will be of Metropolis, the signature level in the Ratchet & Clank franchise. The signature level… until it got destroyed in this demo.
Check out how the PS3 demo will play in this video.
