Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G preview for PSP in Japan

October 31st, 2007 by astrotriforce

Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G for PSP logoMonster Hunter Portable 2nd G, yes another new Monster Hunter game, is in development for Sony’s portable and is scheduled to hit that system in March in Japan. It was originally announced at this year’s Tokyo Game Show 2007, where a few details were announced including that this new game would have new missions and monsters (natch). There will be new “G class” quests to undertake, as well as new varieties of quests.

Also assured is the fact that players can transfer their saved data from Monster Hunter Portable 2nd to 2nd G, and it will be a fully featured game, not a half-baked update. Lastly, it will include a new never-before-seen system for the series. And it will probably have to do with the series’ feline mascot Ailu.

Getting another Monster Hunter game is good news for Sony’s PSP portable, cause the Monster Hunter series is phenomenally popular in Japan where the game has amazed huge sales. So it will definitely help PSP sales to have another Monster Hunter game coming.

You may also remember that Capcom recently announced that they have shifted Monster Hunter 3 from PS3 to Wii. Previously the game was a PS3 exclusive, but Capcom scrapped that version altogether and is bringing it instead to Nintendo’s best-selling console. — Via Kotaku

Gran Turismo creator talks future ideas for PSP and Gran Turismo 5 interaction

October 28th, 2007 by astrotriforce

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for PS3In an interview with Polyphony Digital’s Kazunori Yamauchi, the creator of the Gran Turismo series and President of the company, he talked extensively about both Gran Turismo 5: Prologue for PS3 and the future Gran Turismo for PSP. He hopes that the PSP version of the franchise will be out after Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 . . . but who knows how long it will take them to finish that.

But even so, they have several ambitious ideas for when a PSP Gran Turismo is out, particularly in interfacing it with GT5 on the PS3.

For example, he would love to offer the player the ability to save replays from Gran Turismo 5 on PS3 and transfer them to the PSP, where users could view them, take the replays with them wherever they go, and show them off to people or perhaps trade them with other fans. He says, “One example would be for people to utilize replays of their race experience. Take that outside the home, whereas at home you would need the PS3, but they can take that away and share.”

And of course, an obvious use of having a Gran Turismo on both PS3 and PSP would be versus play between the two consoles! “We’re just talking ideals here – but it would be nice if we were able to allow people to compete whether they’re on the road or in their living room on the PS3, compete in the same race. Even though the visual qualities will be different depending on which hardware they’re on it would be nice if we could allow for that. Technically, we think we should be able to.”

And last (but not least), how about managing a car, and letting it race on it’s own, using the PSP? “Basically you’re the race manager. You don’t even need to steer the controller, you just set the car and let it go; you’re managing it. Another example would be the PSP would be your management tool: give it input and give it instructions and the car would continue on with the race.” — Quotes from Joystiq

No MGS4 PS3 demo, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus release date is November 13th

October 21st, 2007 by astrotriforce

Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops for PSPIn what will surely be a huge knock to the head of all Metal Gear fans and Playstation 3 owners, it was revealed via the latest Kojima Productions podcast that Konami has no plans to release any kind of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots demo before it’s launch next year!

The podcast host, Ryan Payton exclaimed, “I can tell you, as of right now, we don’t have any plans of uploading this demo on the PlayStation Store,” also adding, “And definitely no plans of uploading on the Playstation Network next week.” Also heard was the statement, “The E for All is going to be your one chance to actually play it [the demo] prior to iMGS4 launching next year.” Booooo, I say! Why no demo for one of the most anticipated games of all time? Is this a joke? Let’s hope so, cause this is definitely a bad move on their part in my opinion and I see no reason for them to leave us hanging for a year without a demo.

However there is a sliver of good news for PSP owners, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops+ (Plus) has a planned release date of November 13th. Plus is an expansion pack for the online portion of MGS: Portable Ops with new characters, stages and an all-new single player mode called “Infinity Mission”.

New features include: all-new CG sequences, all-new jobs, new 16:9 widescreen presentation, new head-to-head multiplayer and new storyline elements that refine the genesis of the Ivalice Alliance.

In days now long past, the War of the Lions rent the land of Ivalice in two. And it is here that two young men of note first stepped onto history’s stage. The first is a man named Delita Heiral, the hero who would draw the curtain on the War of the Lions, this dark act of Ivalice’s history. The other, whose role is now forgotten, is a man by the name of Ramza Beoulve. Peer through the eyes of these two yo

Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow behind-the-scenes video with writer Greg Rucka

October 10th, 2007 by astrotriforce

Pre-Order Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow for PSPA new behind-the-scenes Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow (PSP release date is October 2nd, 2007 in the US, sometime in October or November for Europe) video discusses the storyline in the game, which was penned by popular novel and graphic novelist Greg Rucka.

Greg Rucka talks about the game, it’s characters, the storyline, what he contributed to the project in the terms of making the storyline in Syphon Filter: Logan’s Shadow character-driven as opposed to story-driven (by focusing on Gabe and making his life more complicated, for example); Whereby Gabe doesn’t know who to trust or who is really on his side. The game really seeks to expand on the entirety of the Syphon Filter universe as well.

I must say as someone who isn’t a fan of the games (I’ve never played them) this video here has me, very, very interested.

Sony releases PSP Theme Creator as Japanese Slim sales increase

October 4th, 2007 by astrotriforce

PSP Slim & Lite Handheld - Piano BlackSony has finally released an official PSP XMB theme-creator application! (Click the link to download it). This tool allows gamers to create custom PSP XMB (Cross Media Bar) themes! The tool was released on the Sony Computer Entertainment’s Japanese site, but the good news is that the application is fully in English and won’t require lots of experience messing around with Photoshop or some other imaging program to make a decently cool new theme with it.

And along with this news it’s also been a good time for Sony in regards to Japanese sales of the PSP Slim, which got a significant bump with the release of the Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII PSP Bundle as we previously reported. — Via CVG
