No split-screen multiplayer in The Conduit to preserve visuals

April 8th, 2009 by Xav de Matos

Sorry, split-screen fans, The Conduit is hanging you out to dry. According to lead designer Rob Nicholls, the upcoming shooter will exclude a split-screen multiplayer option in order to maintain the game’s visual punch. In an interview with HD Warriors, Nicholls said the main reason the feature isn’t included is because of concern the graphics quality would be reduced when “double-rendering” the game for the mode.

High Voltage’s top priority in developing The Conduit is making sure the title achieves the “best looking” graphics on the Nintendo Wii, said Nicholls. While the in-house tech team at High Voltage continues to squeeze power out of the console, The Conduit will ship without split-screen — but Nicholls said it is remains possibility for future titles.

Wii Warm Up: Best online?

September 5th, 2008 by Alisha Karabinus

Filed under:

If Nintendo’s got a weak point, it’s the online capabilities of Wii games. Compared to other services, online gaming for Nintendo fans is definitely lacking, but at least these days, we actually have a few games that are online. It’s an improvement! Which Wii game do you think has the best online mode, though, and why? Is that good enough?

The week is almost at an end, which means it’s time we pushed responsibility to the side and took a break from it all. A break which involves enjoying some gaming with our fellow man (and woman)! So, we’re going to get together tonight and enjoy some online gaming. Care to join us? For all of you first-timers, jump past the break for the details.

See you all tonight!

Welcome to Game Night, a fun activity where we (the staff) and you (the reader) get together and enjoy the multiplayer games available on the Nintendo Wii and DS, every Thursday evening. We meet in a chat room (which you can access by clicking here) and, after exchanging a few friend codes, we get our game on. Sounds simple enough, right?

It is! All you need to do is look for this post to be at the top of the page around 7pm ET tonight, and there’ll be a big link in the post, informing you all that Game Night is a go. Click that link, then you’re in. Or, you can just click the chat room link above and hang out for awhile. We’ll be there around 7pm ET.

It takes two to Goo

May 27th, 2008 by Chris Greenhough

Because we weren’t already excited enough about dipping our fingers into World of Goo, 2D Boy has now confirmed that the WiiWare version will feature a rather lovely, exclusive feature: a two-player co-op mode that allows you and a sidekick to wield a Wiimote each and construct giant, gooey structures to your hearts’ content. The news first hit the internetz via a 2D Boy newsletter, and the ever-helpful Ron Carmel confirmed it to us earlier today.

Having tried the game ourselves, we can see how well such a mode would work. We’re no closer to a release date yet, but we advise you set aside money for a second Wiimote and some Wii Points now. Oh yes, and if you’re us, acquire a friend.

To celebrate the release of what is sure to be the go-to game for just about every Wii owner for the next lifetime, I’ll be around to throw down with you all later on tonight. Many of you will be attending a midnight release (as I am planning to), so you should dive into the online multiplayer with me. Keep an eye on the site later for where you’ll need to go and we hope to see you this evening. Happy brawling!

Gripshift coming to Xbox Live Arcade in December with extra options shown in new video

November 28th, 2007 by supadupagama

GripShift for PSPGripshift is an arcade racing puzzle game that was first released on the PSP back in 2005, then earlier this year a visually updated version appeared on the PS3 Store as a download with online play, similarly it will now drive to Xbox Live Arcade. The developers Sidhe Interactive are saying the Xbox Live Arcade release is “the definitive version of Gripshift”.

Similar to the PS3 version, if you buy the Xbox 360 game, you’ll get 120 challenge mode levels and updated graphics. Xbox 360 owners on top of this will get: achievement points, leaderboards, four-player online racing (25 tracks), and deathmatch modes (20 maps).

Gripshift carries an ESRB rating of “E” for Everyone and will be released in December 2007. While no price has been revealed yet, expect it to cost $10 like the PS3 version.

IGN got the first video of the Xbox 360 racer:

That’s one rockin’ beat. This should be fun.

Warhawk expansion pack Operation: Omega Dawn coming in December 2007

November 26th, 2007 by supadupagama

Warhawk for PS3A new first Warhawk downloadable expansion pack titled “Operation: Omega Dawn” is coming to PlayStation Network this December. With it you get a brand new map and a new aircraft: the awesome KT-424 Combat Dropship.

Operation: Omega Dawn delivers a new gameplay experience that expands the title’s strategic gameplay elements by offering a new world to explore and introducing a unique aircraft to the Warhawk universe: the awesome KT-424 Combat Dropship.

With Operation: Omega Dawn, the war between the Eucadians and the Chernovans forces continues as the two countries fight to control the high-tech facilities of a critical new battlefield – the Omega Factory. The battle takes place in an entirely new world - an industrial night-time setting where players will fight through five new layouts of advanced building complexes and huge industrial towers. The new map supports all existing game modes – including Team Deathmatch, Zone Mode and Capture the Flag – and is the largest combat zone to date for Warhawk!

But that’s not all; no new battlefield would be complete without a new piece of kit, and Operation: Omega Dawn comes complete with a serious toy which will enhance the already intense Warhawk experience: the KT-424 Combat Dropship. You’ll activate the vehicle once you gain control of one of the many weapons factories on the world; once you have it, you’re in charge of an advanced aircraft capable of carrying seven soldiers and a ground vehicle at once. The KT-424 Combat Dropship transports 1 pilot, 6 soldiers and 1 ground vehicle; and features a deadly new weapon – the MBEC-3 Heavy Support Cannon. You’ll have loads of opportunity to take full advantage of the new KT-424 Combat Dropship because the new world is full of vertical gameplay which integrates ship decks, raised platforms, and factory rooftops accessible only by airborne deployment.
