Sony on-target to hit 11 million PS3’s shipped worldwide by March 2008

September 22nd, 2007 by astrotriforce

Sony Playstation 3 (60GB)Sony has announced that they are on-target to reach their 11 million PS3’s shipped goal by March 2008.

Already Sony has shipped over 5.5 million systems through last March since it’s debut in November 2006. Of course, the systems didn’t exactly fly off of store shelves thanks to the extremely high price, but even so Sony said it would double it’s shipping efforts, and it has.

Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Harai also told Reuters that Sony would like to buy out more developers so that they can create big-name exclusive games for the system to help drive consumer demand, although they promised that they won’t simply buy out developers for the sake of it.

“Talks of an acquisition would emerge only when a company already has tight relations with us, its corporate culture is compatible with ours, its employees are working closely with us, and it can churn out strong software titles,” said Kaz Hirai,

This news comes on the heels of Sony’s acquisition of Evolution Studios, the company that created the million-seller Motorstorm for the PS3 launch. Included in the buy-out was also the Evolution Studios subsidiary Bigbig Studios, the makers of the PSP hit Pursuit Force. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
