Wimbledon in SL, A Quick Look

June 24th, 2008 by Kabalyero

I’ve seen Wrestling Rings, Boxing Rings, Ancient Coliseums, Combat Arenas, Basketball Courts, and other sporting locations but this time I took a quick look at IBM’s Winbledon Tennis Court in Second Life.

What can I say? IBM did an amazing job at it. The tennis court looks amazingly real and it even has two dummy players […]

PGMA Lives a Second Life

November 27th, 2007 by Kabalyero

It seems that PGMA (President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo) just got into Second Life. Various news sources have confirmed that our (Philippines) President is now officially a Second Life resident. LOL!

Other personalities also activated their avatars in Second Life like Department of Science and Technology Secretary Estrella Alabastro and IBM Executive Vice President for Innovation and Technology Nick Donofrio. Honestly, I don’t know who they are but their titles sounds very important. LOL!

The avatars were created by Gabby Dizon of Flipside Games under the direction of IBM Philippines.

Now that she has an avatar in-world would she be the one controlling her avatar? Or will they hire or have hired someone to play her role as President? Or will she just be there for display purposes only? Makes you think and ask questions, right? LOL!

Anyway, I think the Filipino Second Life community is very excited about this and this might also encourage more Filipinos to use Second Life. This might even attract local businesses to set up offices in-world.

Sony sells Cell processor to Toshiba for $858 million

October 19th, 2007 by supadupagama

Cell ProcessorBack in 1999 Sony and Toshiba made a joint venture company to manufacture the PlayStation 2’s semiconductor chips. With this agreement about to expire in March 2008, the two companies got into talks and as a result starting in April 2008 Toshiba will be producing the Cell processors in the PlayStation 3.

For the record, the Cell microprocessor was developed jointly by IBM, Toshiba, and Sony. And Sony made this choice in order to refocuse on its core business instead of branching out into chip production.

The sale of the Cell processor from Sony to Toshiba gives the latter the manufacturing responsibility for the Cell processor used in Sony’s PlayStation 3. But still allows Sony to continue to invest in the Cell chip. The deal was made for close to 100 billion Yen (about $858 million)! — Via 1UP, Engadget & Toshiba
