Analysts think that due to the continuing decline of the U.S. dollar and the 13-year high for the Japanese Yen, you won’t be seeing too many hot deals on Nintendo’s Wii this holiday season. With the Yen being so high, it drives up the cost of Japanese goods for U.S. retailers. And, seeing as how the U.S. economy has been in such bad shape all year, merchants have discounted their goods to offset that fall to a point where they can’t afford to lower prices to attract customers any more.
Wii Fit, one of the items analysts see as being a must-have this season, could be most affected. With the profit margin on it so small (same goes for the Wii console itself), retailers can’t afford to cut prices. One positive thing to come out of this, however, is that the Euro has been on a decline, as well. This means that Nintendo should be shipping more to the U.S., whereas in the past, Nintendo focused on Europe first.

With
Black Friday just around the corner, you're likely doing some last minute sharpening of all your swords and battle testing your armor against your little brother. It's going to be crazy out there as you try to procure a Wii for your loved one or, even worse, yourself. We feel for you.
But, odds aren't looking that good. Considering that the Wii was the gift to have last year, as well, this year isn't looking any better. Retailers are having trouble keeping the console on shelves and Nintendo is having trouble making enough for those shelves. It's a unique situation, in that popular holiday gifts often change from year to year, but the Wii looks like it has the staying power.
What's your plan of action for procuring a Wii this holiday season? Do you have any friends or family trying to get their hands on one?

As hard as Nintendo is trying to quench the thirst of the market by upping its production of Wii consoles, things don't look good for the holiday season. If you have someone on your gift list that is asking for a Wii console, your best bet is to pretend you never knew them. Or, tell everyone you know one of their most intimate secrets in the hopes that they will no longer be your friend. It's the only way you're going to get out of the difficult task ahead of those brave enough to attempt picking one of the consoles up this season.
In proper spin fashion, Reggie is quick to claim that it isn't merely a production issue, but that the demand for the system is just ridiculously high. Regardless of how he spins it, we know it's a production issue. And, given that how hard it is to meet the demand, isn't it better for a company to not be able to keep up with demand than that of the demand being nowhere near the output of the company?

The holiday shopping season is in full swing, which means that once again, Wiis are absolutely nowhere to be found. Do you know anyone who's hunting them this year? Between the ridiculous bundles and the horrific markup on eBay, it's not a good time to be in the market for a console, but what's a desperate shopper to do? If you're looking, tell us what plans you're making for the possibly-inevitable disappointment, or some of your hunting experiences. If you know someone who is looking, or you're just in a good mood, leave a few words of encouragement!
