Analysts think that due to the continuing decline of the U.S. dollar and the 13-year high for the Japanese Yen, you won’t be seeing too many hot deals on Nintendo’s Wii this holiday season. With the Yen being so high, it drives up the cost of Japanese goods for U.S. retailers. And, seeing as how the U.S. economy has been in such bad shape all year, merchants have discounted their goods to offset that fall to a point where they can’t afford to lower prices to attract customers any more.
Wii Fit, one of the items analysts see as being a must-have this season, could be most affected. With the profit margin on it so small (same goes for the Wii console itself), retailers can’t afford to cut prices. One positive thing to come out of this, however, is that the Euro has been on a decline, as well. This means that Nintendo should be shipping more to the U.S., whereas in the past, Nintendo focused on Europe first.

Nearly a year into the release of the Wii, the
shortages continue. Some areas enjoyed a little short-lived respite, but with the holidays around the corner, it seems that once again -- for a variety of
possible reasons -- getting your hands on a Wii is about as common as
spying a leprechaun in the wild.
As a Nintendo fan, does the continued demand for the console surprise you? Certainly, during the holidays, it makes sense; during November and December, it can be difficult to find a
toothpick, much less a hot commodity, but it's not like this is new. Did you expect things might taper off a little? Nintendo
seemed to expect it, even if you didn't, at least now that we've all gotten over the initial shock that came with
everyone demanding a Wii.

Sure, maybe a lot of you
don't find the idea itself terribly exciting, but we are definitely pleased to hear that the Wii Shop Channel's new gift feature will be live worldwide in time for the holidays. Now you'll be able to gift friends with awesome old games without having to track them down in physical form -- and without unloading a lot of cash, either. That's a win all around.
It might also be worth noting that Gamefront's headline on the announcement had the "Wii Gift Channel" in English, and since "das Gift" means "poison" in German, Google's autotranslator informed us that the Wii Poison Channel would be a go in December. We're not quite as excited about that one, frankly.

Halloween is nearly upon us and the Halloween spirit is in full force . . . both in the real world as well as the virtual world!
While Blizzard and Sony Online Entertainment have been bringing the seasonal fun to their MMO’s recently, NCSoft is just now getting in on the act. Here’s a list of what in-game changes you can see exclusively for this Halloween in the games: City of Heroes, Guild Wars, Lineage II and Tabula Rasa.
* City of Heroes — The festivities have already begun in Paragon City! As of October 22, jovial heroes and villains can access “Classical Costumes,” allowing them to briefly dress up as popular NPC baddies. New Halloween-themed monsters and badges will also be available for the next week.
* Guild Wars — From Friday, October 26 until midtarget=”_blank”night on October 31, two Guild Wars cities (the Tyrian port of Lion’s Arch and the Elonian port of Kamadan) will be home to the Mad King Thorn. This otherworldly royalty will run mini-games, tell jokes, and hand out prizes like candy.
* Lineage II — Again beginning tomorrow, October 26, the “Trick or Transmutation” event will kick off in Lineage. Players will be tasked with hunting down various Alchemist’s Chests that will offer extremely rare items, including some never before seen in Lineage II until now.
* Tabula Rasa — While the full game is not yet in release, Tabula Rasa’s head start for those who have pre-ordered will be in full swing during Halloween. Special missions will be offered culminating in receiving one of nine special Halloween masks. — Via 1-Up

With today being a holiday, we wondered if you were bringing the Wii into the mix? The strategic thing would be to bust out the console and get your game on
before stuffing yourself with mashed potatoes, turkey and cranberry sauce, though. We would never dare tell you how to live. But, that is if you in fact plan on actually playing the console with family and friends.

To most of our readers, today is the holiday where buttons suddenly go missing and bellies expand to proportions only seen once a year. It's a day of turkey and pie and gathering with family and friends. If you're the fan of some crummy
football team, it's also a day of sports. It's a day to reflect on what you're thankful for and to relax.
So, that's what we're doing. We'll be posting today, but at a limited capacity (we have families, too!). If you find yourself near a computer, stick around and check us out today, but be sure to give your family the time of day, also. Or, better yet, share the blog with them. They want to know what's going on in your life, anyway.
Happy Thanksgiving from Wii Fanboy and, as always, thanks for reading! We
really appreciate it.
