Nintendo president Satoru Iwata mentioned in a recent interview that the company had a new handheld all set to go in the last three years, but ultimately decided to scrap the plan. Speaking with CNBC, Iwata declined to give any further details about the product, but did say that the most important thing for Nintendo when releasing new hardware is to maintain “momentum.” Iwata implies that the new handheld would not have accomplished that goal.
History lesson time: Many moons ago Nintendo discussed the “three pillar strategy” for its hardware. It was to be the console (Gamecube, then Wii) and the two handhelds (Game Boy and DS). With the runaway success of the DS, and now the DSi, it seems the third pillar became vestigial. Perhaps one day we’ll see what this mysteriously scuttled handheld was meant to be.
One of the perks of living a second life in Second Life is that you will never ever get dirt on yourself. That’s because, dirt does not exist in the virtual world of Second Life. The only way you’ll gonna get dirt is by creating dirt itself using the many creation tools available to you […]

Analyst Evan Wilson claimed he knew the new DS upgrade is already finished. While that’s doubtful, the specifications make sense. To quote: “It is thinner (it has no GBA port), has on-board storage and larger screens. However, we do not expect a revamped Wii or DS until sales begin to tail off in all three major geographies.”
George Harrison, Nintendo’s marketing Vice President was asked about this rumour and surprisingly didn’t give a “no comment” to the question, saying: “We don’t have any imminent plans for an upgrade for the Nintendo DS. The product is still selling extremely well around the world. I’m not sure what his source was for it, but it’s not something you’re going to hear about anytime soon.” Not soon, but it’s coming. — Quotes from Kotaku
It’s like going from GBA to GBA SP to GBA Micro. But instead from DS to DS Lite to… DS Tiny?
The PSP-2000 is getting a new color in Japan, called the PSP Slim & Lite “Deep Red”. At a price of 22,800 Yen (that’s $199 or €137), it will come in a limited edition value pack set with 32MB Memory Stick Duo and the usual extras, just in time for Christmas on December 13th, 2007.

Take a look at the renewed Wii and DS release dates list as Nintendo try to appeal to every kind of consumer, no matter their taste, age or video game playing acumen. Wii games like Super Mario Galaxy anchor Nintendo’s lineup for the holidays, as Wii adds games faster than any other system in this generation. For Nintendo DS, Flash Focus: Vision Training in Minutes a Day and Master of Illusion again will make people think of video gaming in a whole new way.
“Because of Wii and Nintendo DS momentum, third-party publishers are supporting our systems like never before,” says George Harrison, Nintendo of America’s senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “Their lineup of diverse games is testament to how we make the population of gamers a little bigger every day.”
Major publishers worldwide are making games for Wii and DS. Shoppers will find dozens of options through the holiday shopping season and into 2008. By the end of 2007, the library of Wii games is expected to grow to 140, not counting nearly 200 downloadable Virtual Console titles, while the Nintendo DS library should be nearly 450. The following is a partial list of the upcoming games for Wii and Nintendo DS. Note that game titles and launch dates are subject to change.

The below MScape (AKA Media Scapes) game demo video is titled “Roku’s Reward. Game on.” It aims to show HP’s (Hewlett-Packard) mobile media gaming platform in action, that works by bringing you context based media that’s delivered to your mobile device via GPS (AKA Global Positioning System).
Gamers are supposed to play games on mobile platforms based on real-world inputs called, such as GPS and video cameras, to create augmented reality titles. It doesn’t seem that safe walking/running around outside staring at your screen as cars and other traffic drive by fast, but at least the player manages rescues the princess. Is this concept the future you see for portable gaming?
