FIFA 10 line producer (for the Wii version) Sid Misra has told footy fans that troublesome connection issues found in last year’s edition are being addressed for the 2010 version of the game. In a forum thread on the official EA Sports site, Misra admitted that online connection problems encountered in FIFA 09 were due to errors in the game’s code and are currently being ironed out for silky-smooth online gameplay in FIFA 10. That is great news … unless you’re one of the many people who bought FIFA 09 and were unaware of your unofficial status as an EA Sports beta tester.
According to Misra, EA is confident it can sew up holes in FIFA’s online system — citing an impressive 95% completion rate during internal testing. We think that’s swell, but seeing as though there is a major difference between testing in a controlled environment and the real thing, we’re waiting to see how it performs in our own home before we get excited.

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon host, uh, Jimmy Fallon, laid down the gauntlet for one golf legend Tiger Woods recently, challenging him in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 on Wii. Kotaku reports that Tiger has accepted and will play Fallon on his late-night show this Thursday.
We take special interest in this because we’ve always had a dream of challenging Bill Laimbeer in his stellar SNES basketball romp, Bill Laimbeer’s Combat Basketball, so you can bet we’ll be cheering Fallon on all the way.

In the past, Peter Moore has hinted at the tenuous relationship between the company he helms (EA Sports) and Nintendo’s three-DVD-wide home console (the Wii). Yesterday, the leader of the highly athletic development studio fully acknowledged EA Sports’ lackluster sales performance on the Wii in an interview with Eurogamer, stating, “when I look at the attach rate on the Wii of our software to where I think we should be, we’re under-performing still, we need to do much better.”
Moore is hoping to claim a few extra slices of that sweet Wii pie with the studio’s upcoming MotionPlus-infused sports titles, Tiger Woods 10 and Grand Slam Tennis. Of course, we can’t have a story about Mr. Moore without one of his trademarked Awesomely Ostentatious Quotes: “Those two titles couldn’t come at a better time for us, nor for Nintendo quite frankly.” Oh, yeah. That one’s going up on the fridge.
Peter Moore says EA Sports is ‘under-performing’ on the Wii originally appeared on Joystiq Nintendo on Thu, 30 Apr 2009 23:00:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.

EA Sports president
Peter Moore spoke to
VG247 about the state of the economy, offering careful statements about layoffs, sequelitis, and PC releases of sports franchises. But of everything happening at EA Sports, Moore had the most to say about the upcoming Wii exercise program,
EA Sports Active.
“I call it a platform,” Moore said. “Yes, it’s a game, but it’s bigger than a game, bigger than a franchise, bigger than a product. It’s a true platform that we can sell expansion packs, sell more peripherals, ultimately get some download on there.” Interesting choice of words, considering that EA Sports Active’s biggest competitor is literally a platform.
Moore said that he hopes to add biometric data soon. “If I can do that, if I can get your heart-rate on the screen, I mean then I can really drive towards what my vision of this product ultimately can be.”
Active and other exergames like it, according to Moore, can help EA and the game industry in general deal with “the most vitriolic press,” including the Daily Mail, who frequently “blame [videogames] for pestilence, the plague, everything, and I think it’s good that we have things to point to that say, ‘This is getting you off the couch’ and provide a little bit of balance.”

Electronic Arts is totally serious about including ill-tempered tennis legend John McEnroe in EA Sports’ upcoming Wii release, Grand Slam Tennis. According to EA, McEnroe will be just one of several “all-time greats” in the upcoming title, which is expected to take to the court on June 16.
Hopefully EA will package more than just McEnroe’s likeness with the game. We can’t think of a better use of the promised MotionPlus support than mirroring his juvenile antics on screen as we toss our Wii remote aside in disgust when calls don’t go our way.

EA is determined to release its new crop of sports game, whether or not Nintendo has released the Wii MotionPlus peripheral or not. As you may recall, EA revealed the next Tiger Woods game would feature MotionPlus support, as well as a new tennis game the company is developing, and both will ship to retail on June 16, 2009. EA Sports’ PR chief, David Tinson, said that both games “will be compatible, but not dependent, on WMP. They will ship with the functionality, regardless of when WMP comes to market.”
The peripheral is a tie-in with Wii Sports Resort, a game that was woefully absent from Nintendo’s big release list yesterday. Will MotionPlus and Wii Sports Resort be on store shelves by June 16? Nintendo has yet to comment on an exact release for the Wii Sports successor, but we’ll be sure to update you as soon as we hear.
EA not waiting on Nintendo, will release MotionPlus-compat games on time originally appeared on Joystiq Nintendo on Fri, 27 Feb 2009 13:30:00 EST. Please see our terms for use of feeds.
