Kabalyero in Wild & Crazy Coconut has zF RedZone
March 4th, 2011 by KabalyeroWild & Crazy Coconut is a favorite 7Seas Fishing Destination by many 7Seas Fishers because it regularly holds or hosts a 7Seas Fishing Contest. I was able to visit the place again, after a very long time, while trying out the SL Travel Money HUD. It was one of the locations offered by the HUD to visit. At that time, I was using the Cool VL Viewer and I was surprised when the Parcel Media Filter feature of the Cool VL Viewer kicked in.

Cool VL Viewer displayed two pop-up dialogue boxes from two media streams. Both streams were asking for permission to load. The first stream was from “secondlife.com” but the other stream was from “isellsl.ath.cx” and we all know that it is the URL or stream used by the dreaded Alt-Tracking, Alt-Detecting, Privacy Invading and TOS Violating, zF RedZone.
I’m not sure if the owner of Wild & Crazy Coconut is aware of the Privacy Violation issues the device zF RedZone, and its creator, is currently involved in. I don’t think the owner of Wild & Crazy Coconut is the type who will spy on his guests, visitors, friends, fishers, shoppers and customers. I guess, he is just using it to protect the place from Griefers and Copybotters without knowing that it is invading on other resident’s Privacy by linking accounts together.
I remember going to Wild & Crazy Coconut before and, since there wasn’t any way of knowing or detecting zF RedZone back then, I’m a bit worried if they were able to log any identifiable information about me. I kinda don’t like the thought of other people knowing any private information about me besides those that I’ve already disclosed in my blogs and websites.
Right now, your best protection against devices that harvest information to be used in Alt-Tracking, Alt-Matching and Alt-Detection like zF RedZone is to totally disable your viewer’s Audio and Media Streams. Remember, there are other devices out there that do the same thing as zF RedZone. Even if, zF RedZone gets booted out of Second Life, turning media ON by default is still not recommended.
If you wish to have control on what media streams to allow then I strongly suggest you use a Second Life viewer like the Cool VL Viewer. It has the Parcel Media Filter feature and it is one of my favorite Third Party Second Life Viewer. It may not be listed in the Viewer Directory but it does comply with Linden Lab’s Policies on Third Party Viewers. I’ve also been using it for months and I have yet to experience any major problems with it.
As for Wild & Crazy Coconut using zF RedZone, I do understand the owner’s need to protect himself and his merchant’s creations from Copybotters but doing it with a device that invades other people’s privacy is kinda defeating the spirit of it. You simply cannot fight a criminal by committing a crime yourself.
Even though, I have no problems going to a zF RedZone enabled sim because I do know how to protect myself from such invasion of privacy attacks but there are hundreds, even thousands, of residents who don’t know this and they are the ones falling victims to this.
I do hope that the owner of Wild & Crazy Coconut would reconsider his position in using zF RedZone on his sims because it’s a fun place to visit with fishing contests, parties and various fun events. I don’t think they need zF RedZone specially with the current reputation the device and it’s creator has with the entire Second Life Community.
Anyway, if you would like to follow and learn more about this zF RedZone Invasion of Privacy Drama then I strongly suggest that you check out this thread in SLUniverse titled, “ZF Redzone, Disclosure of SecondLife Alts“.

The Swine Flu Fishing Rod Series
May 30th, 2009 by KabalyeroFor the past few weeks, Swine Flu has been the center of global media attention and people around the world are getting scared. What can we do about it? Well, there#8217;s really nothing anyone can do except practice proper hygiene (like washing our hands regularly, covering our mouths when coughing or sneezing, avoid public areas […]pa/pdiv class=”feedflare”

Prejudice? Judged? Selective? No WAY!!!
March 17th, 2009 by KabalyeroIn a discussion, everyone has an opinion but sometimes hurtful opinions are thrown out without looking at the facts or knowing what really happened first. Some people base their opinions on assumptions and speculations and what’s worst is that some people ride it like a wave rolling over the shore.
A week ago, I received a […]

Making a 7Seas Custom Fish from a STARAX fish!
March 2nd, 2009 by KabalyeroI’ve been making custom 7Seas stuff for myself even before 7Seas officially released their Custom Development Kit (OpenSeas, OpenRod and Custom Prize Givers). The very first one was a fishing wand which I made for another 7Seas fisher. This fisher was also the one who told me that the scripts inside the rods can be […]

It’s All About The Money Now
February 23rd, 2009 by KabalyeroOne great aspect of fishing with 7Seas is the ability to create community made items, commonly called customs, that can be caught or fished using 7Seas’ system. Most of these custom items are transferable because they are meant to be traded, shared or given away to people who want or need them. At least, that […]

Fishing at Nippon (11/09/2008)
November 10th, 2008 by KabalyeroToday I was able to enter Nippon’s weekly 7Seas Fishing Contest. Fortunately, I wasn’t doing anything important which allowed me to spare sometime to go fishing. I don’t enter that many fishing contests these days because of my new real life work and the competition now is very tough. That’s why I just do most […]

Fishing Vests
October 3rd, 2008 by KabalyeroHaters, They’re Everywhere!
October 1st, 2008 by KabalyeroToday, I was greeted by an item discussion notification from Xstreet SL. I was surprised because I don’t remember registering in any website named Xstreet SL. So, I went to check it out and again I was surprised because the link took me to SLExchange. It seems that SLExchange has changed their name to Xstreet […]
