Kabalyero in Freelancer: Shattered Worlds – War Torn

March 29th, 2011 by Kabalyero

Shattered Worlds – War Torn is one of my favorite Freelancer Modification. The things I like most in Shattered Worlds – War Torn are the amazing graphics enhancement, the cool looking ships like the Osprey Fighter, the variety of weapons, the really annoying NPC ai and the advanced mining system. Obviously, Shattered Worlds – War Torn offers more enhancements and improvements to the original Freelancer game and you can learn more about these enhancements and improvements here.

Shattered Worlds - War Torn
(Shattered Worlds – War Torn, Freelancer Mod)

When I reinstalled Freelancer, Shattered Worlds – War Torn was one of the first Freelancer Mod that entered my mind. I played with this Mod before and I enjoyed it very much.  That is why, I immediately downloaded and installed the latest version of the Mod. After a few minutes of waiting, I was back in space and flying in the Shattered Worlds – War Torn enhanced Freelancer universe.

Freelancer Mods like Shattered Worlds – War Torn are best played in Multiplayer Mode but I didn’t do that immediately because I wanted to play the game in Single Player Mode first. I wanted to see how the Mod will affect the story of Freelancer and, besides the few bugs in displaying some scenes, I don’t think it affected it very much. In fact, I felt that it made the Story Mode easier to play and finish.

Also, Single Player Mode is not affected by network LAG making it easier to get used to the enhanced and improved Freelancer environment. Dog-fighting in Multiplayer Mode can be difficult at times because of lag. There are times when enemy ships would just jump around the screen making them very difficult to hit. Fortunately, this jumping around the screen does not happen in Single Player Mode.

Below is a short video of Freelancer with Shattered Worlds – War Torn installed.

The ship on the video is the Osprey Fighter. It’s a Class 7 Fighter with lots of guns and it looks very, very cool. This is just one of the many reasons why I like Shattered Worlds War – Torn. The new ships added to the Freelancer universe are extremely COOL looking. Just flying around the vastness of space in them is already enjoyable for me. Well, I’m very easy to please when it comes to playing games.

A few hours ago, I was able to play on Shattered Worlds War – Torn Multiplayer Mode. I had to enter my old Freelancer MP ID but I don’t think it made any difference because my old account in the Shattered Worlds War – Torn server is gone. I saved my old Freelancer MP ID so that I could go back anytime and play on my favorite Freelancer Servers without starting from the beginning but it kinda didn’t help me this time.

Play Deepolis now!

The only thing I was able to do about it was to create a new Character on the server and start again. It’s not really a big deal but I will definitely miss my old ship and, if my memory is correct, my old ship in the Shattered Worlds War – Torn server was an Osprey Fighter (but I could be wrong, it’s been almost a year since I last played on the server).

The last time I played on the Shattered Worlds War – Torn server, I got all my credits from mining. It was a boring process but it got me lots of credits which I used to buy a better fighter. This time, I am trying to do missions and, as expected, lag was making enemy ships jump around on screen making them harder to hit but, at least, it’s less boring than mining. He he he!

I haven’t read the new server rules yet (if there are any) but I don’t think I’m breaking any of them. Besides, I’m just flying around doing missions and I’m not really interacting with anyone yet nor am I disrupting anyone’s fun.

Shattered Worlds War – Torn is a very nice Freelancer Mod. To enjoy it, you will need to get a copy of the original Freelancer game first and you can get it at a very cheap price of less than $ 10 USD from Amazon.com (see listing below).

Once you get the game installed, you will need to download and install the Freelancer Mod Manager program or FLMM. You will use FLMM to activate and apply Shattered Worlds War – Torn on your copy of Freelancer.

Kabalyero in Freelancer, An Oldie But An Absolute Goodie

March 23rd, 2011 by Kabalyero

I woke-up at around 2:00 AM yesterday to find my internet connection down. I don’t know what happened but all my attempts to troubleshoot it failed. Many hours later, I learned that my ISP, Smart Bro, was remotely resetting all their subscriber’s canopy setup. From what I learned, it was their way of purging those who are illegally connecting to their system. Unfortunately, they were also disconnecting some of their paying subscribers and I’ve heard that some were really pissed off by it.

Freelancer
(Freelancer, An Oldie But An Absolute Goodie)

Contacting their Customer Service Hotline didn’t help at all. All they told me was, my canopy wasn’t responding. Of course, it won’t because they shut it down by resetting it back to factory default. The Customer Service Person later said that a technician will look into it in 2 days. What that means is, I won’t have internet access for 2 days. I tried to asked the Customer Service Person if she can schedule it sooner but the best she can do was 2 days.

Having no internet connection is BORING and, since most of the games installed on my computer are online games, passing the time playing games was not an option. That was, until I remembered Freelancer. I dug it out from my old collection of games and installed it. The installation CD was already in a bad condition because of all the scratches and I wasn’t really expecting it to install but, fortunately, it did. A few minutes later, I was back in space and flying around the galaxy in my little ship in Freelancer.

Eve Online Time Codes

This game is absolutely one of the best, if not the best of the best, Space Flight Combat Simulation Game ever created. Everything about it screams AWESOME and I’m really surprised that a sequel or even a MMOG based on the Freelancer Universe was never created. It’s an amazing title and there are people who are still playing it today. In fact, you can even extend the game to make it more enjoyable by downloading modifications and Freelancer has many actively developed modifications to choose from. Some of these modifications were developed to completely change the Freelancer Universe into something else. An example of this kind of modification is Freeworlds: Tides of War. This modification took the Freelancer Universe and transformed it into the Star Wars Universe.

I played Freelancer (unmodified, of course), on and off, through-out the day. I only stopped when I got my internet connection back and it was not because of Smart Bro. I went to a friend’s house, asked if I can use his computer, googled smart bro canopy, went through the search results and learned how to access the canopy. I took notes of what to change to activate my canopy and went home to see if it will work. Luckily, it did and I got my internet access back but I still want the Smart Bro technicians to take a look at it so they could properly set it up.

Seriously, Smart Bro shouldn’t just reset everyone’s canopy without checking to see if any of their paying subscribers were affected. It’s just stupid. I understand why they did it and that is to purge the system of illegal connections but they should also try to do it in a way that will not affect their paying subscribers.

By the way, I took a video of one of my Freelancer Missions and uploaded it to YouTube but you can view it below.

Freelancer is an old game but it’s an absolute goodie. It’s a timeless classic that never seems to age because of the many modifications that are being created for it. If you have never played Freelancer before then why not give it try now. The graphics may look dated but there are modifications that apply graphics enhancements to Freelancer like Shattered Worlds: War Torn, Crossfire, FLAK 88 and others.

Kabalyero in Problems with Heroes in the Sky? Here is How I Solved Mine!

March 21st, 2011 by Kabalyero

Recently, I downloaded and installed a Free-To-Play MMO Flight Combat Simulation Game titled Heroes in the Sky. I came to know about it from one of gamigo’s e-mail newsletter where I was subscribed in. I signed-up for it because the game looked interesting and I’ve always wanted to play a Flight Combat Simulation Game again.

Heroes in the Sky
(Heroes in the SKy, Free-To-Play MMO Flight Combat Simulation Game)

It took me about 3 hours to download the game and just a few minutes to install it but it had to update itself to the latest version and that took another hour at least. When that was done, I clicked on the Start button to start the game but when the game loaded, the black game screen displayed a weird looking error message mostly made of ASCII characters.

Clicking on the Ok button of the error message will close the error message window but it will also make the game stop responding. The only way to get out of that predicament was to manually end the process.

After trying a few more times, I got frustrated and decided to uninstall the game.  Don’t get me wrong, I uninstalled the game because I was thinking of re-installing it again to see if that fixes the weird looking error message that makes the game to stop responding. Unfortunately, I had to re-download the entire game again because I deleted the copy I downloaded earlier (to save or free-up space).

Weird Looking Error
(Weird Looking Error Message)

For the second time, I download and re-installed Heroes in the Sky but this time I had a better idea of how to fix the weird looking error message. By the way, the weird looking error message wasn’t the only problem I encountered with Heroes in the Sky, the game was also triggering my anti-virus program. Every time I run Heroes in the Sky my anti-virus program will pop-up a message asking me to either block it or allow it to continue running.

Heroes in the Sky
(Heroes in the Sky)

Solving the anti-virus program problem was easy. You can either allow Heroes in the Sky to run or you can disable your anti-virus program when you want to play Heroes in the Sky. Some anti-virus programs even has a filter where you can add Heroes in the Sky in the list of allowed programs.

The next problem is the weird looking error message that stops Heroes in the Sky from running. I was able to fix this problem by simply running Heroes in the Sky as an Administrator. I am using Windows 7 and, sometimes, some programs require you to run them as an Administrator for them to work properly. So, if your operating system is Windows 7 or even Vista and you are having the same error then try running Heroes in the Sky as an Administrator.

By letting my anti-virus program run Heroes in the Sky and by running the game as an Administrator, I was able to play Heroes in the Sky without any more problems. The game loaded and run successfully.

Below is a video of My First Time Through Heroes in the Sky Training Mission. I kinda crashed a few times in that video.

I played for a few hours and was able to reach Level 7. The game is actually fun and easy to play. The controls are easy to learn and it didn’t take me very long to get used to flying the plane. I’m sure many of you won’t have a hard time learning how to play Heroes in the Sky.

Kabalyero in Residents Came to See zFire Xue Off, How Nice of Them

March 16th, 2011 by Kabalyero

Linden Lab pegged the last nail into zFire Xue’s virtual coffin when they finally banned the infamous Second Life resident from Second Life. zFire Xue is the creator of security device named zF RedZone. This particular security device became popular with sim owners and creators because it claimed it can successfully detect and ban copybotters and griefers. Unfortunately, it doesn’t do squat. What it does is, it scans your avatar and saves information about you in an external database. The information it takes from you are your IP address, avatar name, age, viewer, payment info, location on the grid, date and time and many more.

zFire Xue Banned From Second Life
(Many residents came to see zFire Xue off. Isn’t that nice of them. LOL)

zF RedZone then uses the information it gathered from all the avatars it scanned by linking accounts together. This is how it is able to detect alternate accounts or alts of many Second Life residents. The worst thing about it is, any zF RedZone user can use it to find alts of other people. In fact, many zF RedZone users use it to spy on other people because with it, they are able to know who your alts are and where you have been on the grid. This is the main reason why sim owners and creators are buying and using this particular security system. Detecting and banning copybotters and griefers are just for marketing purposes to make zF RedZone look legit.

Eventually, zF RedZone was exposed as a tool that invades the privacy of other Second Life residents and, to protect the privacy of their residents, Linden Lab updated Second Life’s TOS. They included alternate accounts as private information and must not be disclosed to anyone by anybody without explicit consent of the owning resident. This update may have resolved the disclosing part of the issue but it does not address the more important part of it which is the gathering or harvesting of avatar information that allowed devices like zF RedZone to invade the privacy of other Second Life residents.

The drama that resulted from the issue created by zF RedZone escalated into a full scale war between zFire Xue with his minions of supporters and those Second Life residents who are fighting for their privacy in Second Life. The battleground expanded from Second Life to Real Life when zFire Xue’s Real Life shenanigans and (alleged criminal) history was exposed to everyone (full details and discussion of zFire Xue’s alleged criminal past can be read here). zFire Xue also admitted that his server was compromised by hackers but that happened because he challenged them to hack his server (read about it here).

Today, the drama started by zF RedZone finally ended. Linden Lab has already banned the creator, zFire Xue, and blacklisted the zF RedZone device from all over the grid. When news about zFire Xue’s banning spread, residents from all over went to his main shop in-world to see him off. Unfortunately, the zFire Xue account may have been banned from Second Life but his other accounts are not. One of his suspected alts, Pussy Guisse, appeared and ejected everyone. That was a funny moment. LOL!

zFire Xue Banned From Second Life
(zF RedZone Shop In-world)

The fight against zFire Xue and zF RedZone may have ended but the war to Protect every Resident’s Privacy in Second Life is far from over. As long as residents are allowed to datamine or harvest avatar data and use those data to link accounts together, there will also be residents that will continuously fight against it. Privacy is a very big deal to everyone in Second Life and every resident should be concern about it because, if not then, they are only making themselves a target by unscrupulous residents of Second Life. Residents like zFire Xue will continuously exploit your weaknesses for his own personal benefit and there is nothing you can do about it because you let him do it to you.

If by chance you find more devices like zF RedZone being sold either in the Second Life Marketplace or from in-world shops then it would be best if you could Abuse Report it for TOS violation.

Kabalyero in One of My Shirt Got Some Media Attention in Second Life

March 8th, 2011 by Kabalyero

Well, it kinda did. Yesterday, I went to check-out the live broadcast of the Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe in-world. I usually don’t go to places or attend things like this in-world but I kinda did with this one. The show was going to talk about RedZone/GreenZone and it kinda interested me enough to check it out.

Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe

Unfortunately, the venue was very, very laggy. It was so laggy that my avatar couldn’t even move and, because of that, I had to use my camera controls to CAM inside the venue just to see the set and the avatars inside. The lag was also causing everything around me to rez very, very slowly. In fact, Ms. Paisley Beebe didn’t even rez in my viewer. She stayed a cloud the entire time I was there.

For a while, everyone and everything was gray but the gray color slowly disappeared and revealed some of the avatars that were there. I took some screenshots of everyone and my avatar but what caught my attention was the picture of my *KK* All Your ALTS Belong To Us shirt displayed on the big screen above the set. I was very surprised to see one of my FREE shirt up there displayed for everyone in Second Life to see.

Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe

Seriously, you can’t buy that kind of advertising in Second Life and I’m the type who rarely spends money on advertising. I took a few more snapshots and left the place because of the extreme lag. I wanted to stay longer but it wasn’t working for me. The lag was simply unbearable.

Free Avatar

I left the place after taking a few more screenshots and decided to just watch the re-run of the show which I did today. I went to the Archives of the show, grabbed the MP4 and watched the show by streaming it on my small piece of land in Second Life. I setup a big particle media screen, sat there and watched the entire episode as it streams from my land to me.

(This is my avatar watching the Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe on my small land in Second Life)

During the RedZone/GreenZone part of the show, my shirt was displayed on the screen a few times. Did it get enough media exposure? I honestly don’t know but I wouldn’t complain either because I got myself some FREE advertising on the Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe. I do believe that my name, logo and website URL on the picture or product label were clear and readable from the display screen.

Watching the Tonight Show with Paisley Beebe

I also spotted someone wearing my *KK* I Was Scanned By RedZone And Now I’m You, WTF shirt. Nice! She was also sitting very close to the stage. Now that is one way of showing where you stand in this RedZone versus GreenZone drama.

Unfortunately, they didn’t mention where to get the shirt but that was okay because displaying it on the screen was more than enough exposure for it. If you are wondering where you can get that red shirt then wonder no more. You can buy a copy of that shirt for FREE at the Second Life Marketplace. Simply search for “zF RedZone” and it will be listed in the Search Results.

(This was the shirt that was displayed at the show. You can get it from the Second Life Marketplace)

By the way, I would like to thank the Tonight Live with Paisley Beebe for the FREE advertising of my FREE shirt on their show. Remember, if you are interested in getting your own copy of this shirt to wear in Second Life then just go to the Second Life Marketplace and search for “zF RedZone”.

Kabalyero in “Hiya, you can call me the Friendly Copybot user”

March 8th, 2011 by Kabalyero

I found this post while going through the many updates on my Twitter account. The link was posted by @SecondBot in Twitter and it talks about Copybot, Content Theft and Security in Second Life.

Hiya, you can call me the Friendly Copybot user.

I will not go into full details here, but I will try to explain briefly to everyone as much as I can.

You can’t stop content theft from Second Life unless they get rid of all (TPV) Third Party Viewers, and run a separate program which is updated once a week, and authenticated with Second Life, and SL Viewer which automatically update like for instance Divine Souls, or any other popular MMO title on the market.

Is it possible? Yes it is, In fact it is possible to bring down content theft by at least 98% I would say if LL did this, but at the same time people could no longer use third party viewers at all period, and SL would become closed source for Second Life. With weekly updates this would keep people who crack it constantly updating, and with people like me informing LL of any and all cracked clients out there through secure Jira, and other users their copybots would become useless really fast.

As it is right now, the Could Hard truth is that you can’t stop content theft on any grid, if a user can see it, you can copybot it no matter what. Some grids like Avi-Nation have limited function on Copybots, but I found ways to exploit security in Avi-Nation, as well as new exploits in Linden Lab security which I am currently researching which could possibly Damage SL for a lot of users, I will not note what it is here until I finish getting the details, but I will say that it could be very bad if the information I have is correct.

Free Avatar

For example, Animations can not be Stolen by copying directly to the inventory anymore, a Copybotter can obtain the UUID, and make a client AO, or use these animation UUID’s freely in scripting and give them away to any and all users in Second Life. Also you can download them to your computer, and take them across grids if you wish, or use in other applications, nothing can stop that except a DMCA, and the other company, and their TOS, which if the copybot counter files you may have to go to court.

Textures, Sounds, and Gestures, are all easy to steal from creators, and asset spoof onto prims in Second Life really easily done, and so far LL has not found a way to stop this.

Demo Hairs are easy unless the textures have a copyright on them to steal, take the box attached, make it alpha, then drop it inside the hair base, and give it away full perms.

Copybot Defense System (CDS), and Zf Red Zone, as well as other bot detectors.

While these detectors claim to stop copybot, all they do is Data Mine residents in Second Life, I am not going to go into much detail about these because I do not want to start a big debate here, but basically they work through the Media, and log IP address, Operating System, and a few other details about a user without consent. This can be used to track alternate accounts, and is not always 100%, and as we know under the SL community standards is a violation of Disclosure, and Defaming individuals if it gets it wrong.

People in SL will flame me for saying this, I really don’t care because it is the truth. If I can’t see the script, and if it is not full permissions I would not trust it on my land, but that is me, especially if it connects to another persons DB, but I guess you could say that about a lot of things.

Linden Lab

While I give many Thanks to the Technology Philip Rosendale created for us, it is not used for his intentions as he dream.

Second Life is suppose to be a Unique Experience for any and all users, but instead it is nothing but Drama, People Griefing, Using Guns, and Hacking, or Copybot/Theft. I myself can not understand why people have to do such, and why many people in SL are so Ignorant to support privacy violators, or groups to cover up bad things their members have done, as I have seen many snapshots on the internet of groups covering up Copybot in Second Life, even the most popular, and it is stupid.

I do enjoy Second Life, as Resident, and so did a friend I knew in Second Life who got banned maybe a week ago I honestly have no idea when or why they got banned. This person was hate by many people in SL for many reasons, and they saw things no one else did, a person I will Trust, Respect, and Give my honors to for doing the right things. While this person I am sure has violated the Community Standards, and TOS in many ways by Disclosure of information on residents at times, and even risking their account by using GL Intercept and other various methods of content theft Tracking, which was reported back to many creators, when this involved a large number of stolen content. Yes all content theft is bad, but with the amount of information we have to report, we would be contacting the same merchant every single day in SL when a stolen skin, or clothing was found, and that is how bad it is, and this is just an example.

It is more than likely that a group of content thieves, or supporters jumped this person with Abuse Reports, but there is no way to tell without knowing who file the report which LL does not disclose any information in AR’s so only they know, and yes they had a ton of enemies.

All Content Theft is Bad!

Content theft will always continue for the most part at least for now, All I can say is that Lawsuit against Linden Lab should not be done because you know now by creating content in Second Life that your work is, and can be stolen at any time, that is just how it is, and how we as residents have to deal with it for now.

I myself, as well as the other people who work along side of me, will continue to do what we can when we can to assist, and protect the community from griefers in Second Life, as well as content theft, we can’t stop 100% of it just as RZ,or CDS cant. The difference between us, and these systems, is we work without disturbing the peace often until we find without a doubt that a group, or person is using a copybot to clone items, or supporting content theft, at that point we file abuse reports to LL with evidence, and notify the group owners.

I Encourage the Community of Second Life, to do what they can for your content developers, and remember that they work very hard for you with every piece of content they make. Believe me I am a content creator myself, I do LSL, and C++, as script weapons, so I know how hard and how many hours it can take to have some dumb person steal your work.

The only fault I see with Linden Lab currently, is sometimes they are blind to see the truth and what is really going on. I myself am a registered member of many copybot networks that are out there, and I know all about their new viewers and such, which is how I stay up to date on trying to protect the SL community. Now the only problem with LL is that sometimes they ban the wrong people. One of my group members, and by group we are an unofficial group, we don’t group in SL, but use IRC, and Ventrilo & Skype to Communicate, got permanently banned from SL recently, and all I know is they may never be back in SL again. Yes they broke the community standards a lot of times, and do not have a clean history with Linden Lab, and Yes they broke the SL TOS by using illegal methods to detect stolen content in SL, but at the same time this person had the balls to not deny such to the public, Lie to content developers, Knew many of the popular SL creators, and did their best to do what was right for the community.

I ask that people please respect this person, and give them a moment of silence because I will sure as well miss them as a resident, and my friend, and for those that doubt LL makes mistakes, or wrong moves think again.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnMzj-fRGvM Please read the video description.

In our view SL is decline a lot, and we do not know how long SL will be around for, but we will do what we can to protect the community of this game.

SL has had many lawsuit filed on them as well, from Sex Beds, to their TOS not being legally binding, and many other claims made back in 2007, and possibly early 08, and claims from 2003. Their Terms of service now has been updated, and would be considered legally binding, but for those that created an account way back, and played Second Life, there could possibly be legal issues for loss of access to their creations, L$, and lands. Sure LL gives 30 days to accept a new TOS, or get out, but back in certain early parts before 2009, LL made claims residents owned their Land, and their creations, and by LL restricting access to these users of SL they could take them to court and such, but again this is a Civil matter that has to be taken care of in a court, or LAW.

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/setView/news/gameId/83/showArticle/7893

http://virtuallanddispute.com/

I have no doubt that LL will try to remove this information from the Public Eye, and so this post will be posted on other blogs and archived so that it will be still available to people searching for such on the internet, because people deserve the right to the truth.

I ask that people look at who runs CDS, and RZ in SL, and before just saying I trust this Anti Theft system, do some research, find out how it works, and who runs it, because chances are they can’t be trusted in our view again. CDS is run by Ex. Emerald Developers, who worked with JCool410, and other Copybot users. Both systems can log false information on residents, and both systems have had people manually add to them. which leaves trust where. Again people like myself, and others do not use, or support these type of systems, we do not ask for cash for our help, as the developers of these systems said we should start a company for giving help in SL.

SL is our Community, and as a whole, we choose what goes on in SL, we make up SL, we pay LL for what we use, Like & Support, we control SL, should everyone in SL Leave, and all of a sudden drop all their Land, where would LL be. My point is we call the shots not LL, LL owns the service yes, but we feed them, and pay for their work, and their support, and we trust LL to do their best.

I hope LL does not find any of this to be offensive towards them, and ask that they learn from this post a bit maybe.

At this time I would just like to give Everyone a big Thanks, and a Thanks to all the content creators in support of our operations for over 2 years in Second Life, it was good, and we did what we could as a resident of SL, and it is sad to say that some things are just beyond our power in SL, but we go on.

I’m not sure if this has been re-posted anywhere but I’m re-posting it here on my blog for everyone to read. All credits go to the original poster.

Kabalyero in Wild & Crazy Coconut has zF RedZone

March 4th, 2011 by Kabalyero

Wild & Crazy Coconut is a favorite 7Seas Fishing Destination by many 7Seas Fishers because it regularly holds or hosts a 7Seas Fishing Contest. I was able to visit the place again, after a very long time, while trying out the SL Travel Money HUD. It was one of the locations offered by the HUD to visit. At that time, I was using the Cool VL Viewer and I was surprised when the Parcel Media Filter feature of the Cool VL Viewer kicked in.

zf RedZone Detected at Wild & Crazy Coconut

Cool VL Viewer displayed two pop-up dialogue boxes from two media streams. Both streams were asking for permission to load. The first stream was from “secondlife.com” but the other stream was from “isellsl.ath.cx” and we all know that it is the URL or stream used by the dreaded Alt-Tracking, Alt-Detecting, Privacy Invading and TOS Violating, zF RedZone.

I’m not sure if the owner of Wild & Crazy Coconut is aware of the Privacy Violation issues the device zF RedZone, and its creator, is currently involved in. I don’t think the owner of Wild & Crazy Coconut is the type who will spy on his guests, visitors, friends, fishers, shoppers and customers. I guess, he is just using it to protect the place from Griefers and Copybotters without knowing that it is invading on other resident’s Privacy by linking accounts together.

I remember going to Wild & Crazy Coconut before and, since there wasn’t any way of knowing or detecting zF RedZone back then, I’m a bit worried if they were able to log any identifiable information about me. I kinda don’t like the thought of other people knowing any private information about me besides those that I’ve already disclosed in my blogs and websites.

Right now, your best protection against devices that harvest information to be used in Alt-Tracking, Alt-Matching and Alt-Detection like zF RedZone is to totally disable your viewer’s Audio and Media Streams. Remember, there are other devices out there that do the same thing as zF RedZone. Even if, zF RedZone gets booted out of Second Life, turning media ON by default is still not recommended.

If you wish to have control on what media streams to allow then I strongly suggest you use a Second Life viewer like the Cool VL Viewer. It has the Parcel Media Filter feature and it is one of my favorite Third Party Second Life Viewer. It may not be listed in the Viewer Directory but it does comply with Linden Lab’s Policies on Third Party Viewers. I’ve also been using it for months and I have yet to experience any major problems with it.

As for Wild & Crazy Coconut using zF RedZone, I do understand the owner’s need to protect himself and his merchant’s creations from Copybotters but doing it with a device that invades other people’s privacy is kinda defeating the spirit of it. You simply cannot fight a criminal by committing a crime yourself.

Even though, I have no problems going to a zF RedZone enabled sim because I do know how to protect myself from such invasion of privacy attacks but there are hundreds, even thousands, of residents who don’t know this and they are the ones falling victims to this.

I do hope that the owner of Wild & Crazy Coconut would reconsider his position in using zF RedZone on his sims because it’s a fun place to visit with fishing contests, parties and various fun events. I don’t think they need zF RedZone specially with the current reputation the device and it’s creator has with the entire Second Life Community.

Anyway, if you would like to follow and learn more about this zF RedZone Invasion of Privacy Drama then I strongly suggest that you check out this thread in SLUniverse titled, “ZF Redzone, Disclosure of SecondLife Alts“.
